Renovate Your Thinking for 2008

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

Dear friends, I am sorry it has been so long since my last Tipping Point was emailed out.  Since good leaders don’t make excuses, I’ll just say, “I’m sorry.”

As we head into the New Year, and some of you contemplate how you hope 2008 will be different and better than 2007, I’m sure some of you will make resolutions such as these:

·         I will not look at boys - 13 year old girl

·         I will eat ice-cream at midnight - every midnight of the year, I mean, not just this one - Ice-cream Connoisseur

·         I won’t worry so much - Fuss Budget

·         This year I’m going to be kind - Unkind Person

·         I will do less laundry and use more deodorant - Lazy and Smart Fellow

·         I don’t need no STINKING resolutions! - Resolute Stinker

·         I will not tell lies - 10 year old liar.

·         I will be more imaginative - 30 year old ‘Creative Person’

·         I will have noble thoughts - Impure Thinker

·         I will take neither myself nor any of the above too seriously – Me

May I challenge you instead to resolve, to strive for something higher, greater, more life, family, community,  and world changing.

Why not Resolve to:

·         I will read my Bible at least 4 times a week, if not everyday, and incorporate its teachings into my life.

·         I will pray daily for those closest to me and those who annoy me.

·         I will give more of my time, talent, and treasure to the Church and to charity.

·         I will resolve to be involved in Bible study groups and ministries which stretch and grow me spiritually.

·         I will not be overcome by evil but overcome evil with love.

·         I will do more than just say “I love you” to my spouse, children, siblings and/or parents daily, but I will treat them like I love them daily.

·         I will pray for those in authority over me, even if we differ politically.

·         I will be a good steward of Gods’ creation by living more enviro-friendly.

·         In a nutshell, I will strive to act, speak, and think more like Jesus

·         I will admit I am powerless to make these a reality, and will submit myself to God so that they become part of the core fabric of who I am.

May we all resolve to allow God to continue touch us at those tipping points in life so that “people may see your good deeds and praise your father in heaven.”  (Matthew 5:16)
