Lent Reflection - Day 35
Tuesday, March 31st, 2009Mark 8:36-37 - “What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet lose his soul. Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul.”
Here it is again: the idea of denying ourselves in order to pursue the mission and vision Christ has for our lives. We often think the things, the possessions, positions, people ,and power are what matter most in this life. That is until we don’t have them.
Then one of two things happen: our desire for these intensifies and we pursue them with greater diligence; or we realize they are only temporary and begin seeking that which really matters - really lasts. Things like family, friends, and leaving a legacy of grace and compassion.
So what are you pursuing? Is it something that will last for eternity, or lasts for a few years and then is gone like dust? The key is determining what will last forever and pursuing it!
