The Surrendered Life - Surrendering Worries and Anxieties

There was a song that came out in the early 1990’s that was an instant “hit” on the radio, so much so that not only was everyone singing it, but the song almost became annoying.  It’s chorus was very simple, but yet for us should be very powerful because it speaks to a very significant choice we have in life.  The song went like this:  “Don’t worry; be happy.”  As I said, simple, yet powerful. Throughout scripture, we are reminded not to worry, but to “cast all your cares upon Him for He cares for you.”  (1 Peter 5:7)  “Easier said than done,” you say, “especially with all I want to get done and accomplish.”  Isn’t that the issue.  Worry is about me being in control and instead of God being in control.  Worry is about thinking that if  life and relationships are going to “work out right,” I must do it.  I must make it happen. That I can do it better than God can.

A surrendered life finds peace in not worrying but realizing things work out better when God is in charge.  A surrendered life realizes that I am finite and powerless, where God is infinite and all-powerful, and if anyone can make my life, my relationships, me better it is God, so I need to surrender all my worries and anxieties to Him.  Though it doesn’t mean I stop trying to do my part, it does realize that ultimately, everything including the results are in God’s hands.  So make the freeing choice today: Don’t worry; Be Happy by surrendering your worries to God today! Pastor Tony Johnson
